Stafford Rangers were made to pay for Stevenage's disappointing start to the campaign as Mark Stimson's men finally clicked into gear and recorded a 6-0 win at Broadhall Way.

With just two points from the first six games, Stimson was anxious to quell the murmurings of discontent and this demolition of Stafford will have done just that as the home side took full advantage 10-man Rangers to register one of their biggest ever Conference wins.

Stevenage set the tone early on Jason Goodliffe was soon in the thick of the action with a header which Wayne Daniels did well to clear off the line and onto the crossbar.

Stafford were then down to ten men when Murphy appeared to be fouled by Stevenage's Barry Fuller going into a challenge. But when the Stafford man aimed a kick at Fuller referee Bull had no option but to show him a red card.

Lifted further by their advantage, Stevenage piled on the pressure, and George Boyd hit the first of the game when he stole into the box and saw his shot find the back of the net after hitting both posts.

The onslaught was endless for Stafford and the inevitable second came on 34 minutes when Boyd was again on target, pouncing in the area on another loose ball after Steve Guppy had seen a shot deflected by the keeper.

Playing neat possession football Boro were in total control of the game and netted a spectacular third on 43 minutes when Guppy found Craig Dobson with a searching cross-field ball. Looking to feed the men in the centre, Dobson launched a ball into the centre which evaded Dean Williams in the Stafford goal and found the back of the net from fully 30 yards.

Stevenage hit their fourth, Steve Morison pouncing in the six yard box to convert after Williams had blocked a shot from Adam Miller.

The fifth came just after the hour when Morison raced clear on goal and slipped Boyd in to fire high into the net for his hat-trick. The goal sparked another spell of dominance and double figures looked on the cards when Stevenage made it 6-0 on 64 minutes, Boyd feeding Guppy on the left for the former England man to fire over a cross which Dobson guided home at the far post.
