Stevenage kept in contention with the leading pack in the Conference, but they were indebted to referee Ward who provided more than one controversial turning point in the game.

Unbeaten at home this season Stevenage looked anything like a title-chasing side as Harriers dominated early on. Three times in the opening 10 minutes Iyseden Christie came close to opening his account, while Simon Heslop squandered Kidderminster's best chance when he side-footed narrowly wide on 13 minutes when it looked easier to score.

Stevenage required a penalty to drag themselves into the game. It came when a George Boyd corner was handled in one of Stevenage's few ventures upfield.

Darryn Stamp neatly slotted the ball into the bottom corner on 24 minutes, and after Stamp had missed when clear through on goal just seconds later Stevenage doubled their lead on 27 minutes. A corner was again the undoing of the visitors, and this time it was Barry Laker who turned in Dannie Bulman's cross with a neat header.

Stevenage coasted in the second period and even went down to 10 men for a full 11 minutes when Robert Quinn required treatment for a cut. But Stevenage were rudely awoken on 68 minutes when a poor back header from Barry Laker allowed Christie to lift the ball over keeper Alan Julian and in.

The Kidderminster fans were left fuming just two minutes later when Wayne Hatswell was harshly adjudged to have fouled in the box. Stamp stepped up to net his second of the game, and this time there was to be no way back for the fuming
