A goal six minutes from time proved to be enough to end Stevenage's season on a high and ensure their qualification in next season's LDV Vans Trophy.

Victory for the home side allied to Woking's 2-2 draw at Halifax guaranteed Boro a finishing place of eighth, although disappointingly the home side have once again seen them fail to reach the play-offs.

In an exciting end to the season, it was Stevenage who drew first blood when they netted after just ten minutes.

Michael Brough carved out the chance and also applied the finishing touch as he powered through a static Forest Green defence before placing the ball past Steve Perrin and firing into the back of the net.

Further chances fell the way of the home side and Spurs loanee Lee Barnard and Jon Brady both came close with efforts that just cleared the bar.

For their part Forest Green's only effort of the game came on 24 minutes when Steve Cowe unleashed a shot which Mark Westhead saved with ease.

The second half began with a flurry of activity and inside two minutes it was the visitors who had pulled level.

Gareth Stoker did the hard work down the right-hand side before firing in a cross which Alex Sykes drilled home under the body of Westhead.

Boro came close to retaking the lead just a minute later when Dino Maamria saw a shot parried wide and the on-rushing Borro attack failed to take advantage of the rebound as the loose ball was drilled wide.

The second half saw a succession of efforts squandered by the home side as Brough, Barnard and the exciting George Boyd all came close to making the breakthrough.

But in the end it was Joe Flack who got a crucial first home goal with the seconds ticking away.

He powered through on goal from the left flank and drilled past Perrin to earn Stevenage a crumb of comfort from another season of underachievement.
