Stevenage booked a home FA Cup first round tie with Stockport County courtesy of this hard fought win against a plucky Eastbourne side.

Stevenage were grateful for the replay after coming back from two goals adrift on Saturday and this time they looked keen to finish it as they piled on the pressure and created a host of first-half chances.

Simon Wormull and Dino Maamria both came close with flicked headers which just cleared the bar, while Jamie Cook almost scored single-handedly when he beat four men in a run which started inside his own half, only to force a fine diving save from keeper Lee Hook.

Eastbourne's best effort of the game came from a Stuart Playford header on 43 minutes which flashed just wide of the post as the home defence went to sleep.

But it was Stevenage who continued to carve out the chances and who grabbed a deserved winner on 64 minutes when Steve Watson picked up the ball on the edge of the box and fired in a 25-yard effort which left keeper Hook with no chance and the Stevenage faithful making plans for more Cup glory.
