Burton Albion secured their first win of the season with thir first first-half goal of this campaign.

It came courtesy of a generous penalty awarded by referee Stephen Bratt when the ball struck Matt Hocking's arm.

A fine run and deep cross by Laurie Wilson was headed back by Sam Shilton and struck his marker Hocking on the arm.

Quite what he could have done to avoid the ball from so close is anyone's guess.

Craig Dudley stepped up to send Woodman the wrong way with a well-taken spot kick.

In a game that sadly lacked any real passion, it was all that was needed to separate the teams.

Burton Albion had started the better with some early pressure and a fine shot by Dale Anderson just going wide in a goalmouth scramble. .

The first real chance fell to Stevenage when a mazy run by Dino Maamria down the right wing led to him cutting the ball back for Ritchie Hanlon to drill goalwards.

But a superb saving block by Michael Simpkins resulted in a corner.

After Burton took the lead, Boro fought back and a volley by Ritchie Hanlon squirmed through the hands of keeper Daniel Crane, but luckily for Burton, Michael Simpkins was on the line to clear.

Boro came out for the second half lacking any real drive or desire to level matters. Burton it was who almost exteded their lead when a harmless cross from the Burton left should have been cleared by Barry Laker, but his mis-kick fell nicely for the on- rushing Corbett. Unfortunately his shot was even worse than Laker's clearance.

Boro substitutions livened the game up considerably and the introduction in particular of George Boyd almost brought immediate results.

His fine jinking run through the middle and slide pass to Jon Nurse gave Nurse the opportunity to beat the keeper. He did this but sadly couldn't keep his feet and the ball was cleared with the goalmouth gaping open.
