A resurgent Stevenage Borough moved out of the relegation zone with a fine display against Dagenham & Redbridge.

Early chances from great build-up play were spurned by Danny Shipp, John McGrath and Mark Stein. However after 23 minutes Stevenage woke up and began the fightback and they were to dominate the rest of the game.

A long ball into the box was headed back by Jamie Cook and Danny Carroll's shot was easily dealt with by Daggers keeper Tony Roberts.

Roberts was to become the busiest man on the pitch for the next 20 minutes until half time.

Some fine intricate interplay by Sam McMahon and Tony Battersby saw McMahon cut through the Daggers defence like butter and thunder a shot just over the crossbar.

Minutes later when Cook beat his marker and crossed to Anthony Elding, but the ball was flicked out of his path.

Five minutes from half time a long Boro free-kick was half cleared by Roberts. A long looping header from McMahon was arrowing towards the top left corner, but Roberts managed to recover and clear.

From the resulting corner Elding cut inside and his left-foot shot was once again saved by Roberts low down.

All square at half time but Boro were beginning to dominate.

Moving into the second half Boro put the Daggers under intense pressure and that pressure told after 57 minutes with one of the Boro goals of the season.

Simon Travis picked the ball up deep on the right and moved the ball across the middle of the pitch exchanging passes with Cook, before crossing powerfully. Danny Carroll was on hand to force the ball home with his head past the helpless Roberts.

The expected Daggers fightback was only ever half-hearted and despite shots by Tim Cole and Junior McDougald the Boro defence coped well.

On 73 minutes a free-kick deep on the left reached Cole unmarked at the back post, but his strong header was well kept out by keeper Mark Westhead.

After 75 minutes a long free-kick by Westhead arrived at the feet of Elding 25 yards from goal. He shielded the ball well, looking to pass, but seeing no-one available turned his defender sublimely and shot into the bottom corner, leaving Roberts floundering.
