Borough's advance on the promotion places was firmly checked by Northwich who did enough in a high tempo finish to have won.

The visitors made the brighter start with Anthony Elding and Dannie Bulman going close but the game turned on two penalty decisions within as many minutes by referee Amy Rayner.

She first awarded Northwich a spot-kick when Paul Brayson was pushed over by Jon Brady but Brayson's shot was beaten away by Andy Woodman.

But in the very next attack Mark Rogers pulled down Jamie Hughes and this time Brayson buried the penalty in the opposite corner.

Just before the break Vics almost doubled their lead when Jamie Hughes hit the post.

But the away side made a storming start to the second half and scored a deserved equaliser when Elding's cross was deflected by Kieran Charnock and Dino Maamria blasted home from close range.

Northwich then took the initiative but a winner them.

Johnny Allan and Peter Band both went close, the latter clipping the top of the crossbar, while Brayson and, in stoppage time, Phil Carratt, almost snatched a much-needed victory for Steve Burr's side.
