Morecambe secured their first win in ten games with this narrow victory over in-form Stevenage Borough.

The Shrimps came from behind with goals either side of the break enough to clinch the three points.

Garry Thompson was their goal hero with a clinical 49th minute strike from the edge of the box, but the star of the show for the home side was new signing Terry McFlynn.

The Northern Ireland Under-21 international, signed from Margate for £14,000 in midweek, made a fine start to his Morecambe career with a dominating performance.

He gave Morecambe the spark they had been missing in recent weeks and capped his display with Morecambe's first goal, on 41 minutes.

It was Stevenage who started the better however and Dino Maamria should have given them the lead after just two minutes when he pulled his shot wide from the edge of the box.

Twelve minutes later, the visitors took the lead however. Jamie Cook found himself in acres of space on the right-hand side and from the edge of the area curled a sweet left-foot shot into the bottom right-hand corner of Craig Mawson's goal.

McFlynn then began to exert his influence on the game and forced Lionel Perez into a neat tip-over after a curling shot from 30 yards out looked destined for the top right-hand corner.

That proved to be a rare shot on goal throughout the half, which only came to life again when McFlynn equalised on 41 minutes.

There looked to be little danger, but Stevenage defender Nathan Bunce saw his attempted back header fall short of keeper Perez, who could only deflect the goal into the path of McFlynn, who scored from eight yards out.

Buoyed by that goal, Morecambe started the second half sharply and took the lead on 49 minutes. Danny Carlton provided the perfect pass for Thompson to produce a fine finish on the edge of the area.

Both sides then struggled to turn possession into chances with Stevenage seeing Steve Watson force Mawson into a neat save and Rocky Baptiste fire over from the edge of the area.

But they were the only real efforts of note in a second half which produced little goalmouth action.

After Morecambe's recent troubles, this was a welcome three points and Stevenage will be looking to bounce back to their recent run of good form in midweek.
