Hereford's Paul Parry further enhanced his transfer value with a vital winner for the Bulls two minutes into injury time.

Stevenage can consider themselves hard done by to have come away with nothing from a game in which they restricted Hereford to a single on-target shot in the whole match.

At the other end, Matt Baker had a much busier time in the Hereford goal and produced the game's outstanding save when he reached backwards to flick away a Dino Maamria header with his right hand on the half-hour.

Hereford's two best openings in the first period both involved new signing Mark Beesley.

The former Chester striker was denied by a fine tackle by Mark Smith on eight minutes but he then failed to find Rob Purdie who was in the clear as Beesley went for goal himself.

For Stevenage, Steve Watson fired well over in the early stages and then Baker fielded shots from Simon Wormull and Jamie Cook as the half progressed.

Wormull also fired just wide from the edge of the area after Baker had punched clear from a Cook corner.

The Stevenage attack failed to make much impression in the second period but Hereford also found it hard to break through, their best opening coming when Parry sent Beesley racing away, but the striker sent his shot skimming wide of the goal.

Then, just when it seemed as if the game must end goalless, Parry streaked on to a through pass and carried the ball into the penalty area before despatching a powerful left-foot effort to notch his ninth goal of the season.

"It was an excellent finish by Paul, particularly considering that he had to carry the ball a long way on a bobbly pitch," said Bulls director of football Graham Turner.
